ARROGANCE OF POWER
PART 2

One of the core reasons, as well as evidence, as to why God’s hand was instrumental in the formation of the United States Constitution was because He knew the propensity that was in man to bend towards self-ambition, and/or ideologies that would quickly erode sound reasoning based upon divine guidance. Therefore, this would inevitably lead to neglecting ones conscience, which consequently includes neglect of duty. The duty that matters most is the duty of public office. Our generation of leaders are living proof of the godlessness that exists within the hearts of those who claim they serve us.

This concern is evident in beliefs that were forcibly expressed in a variety of ways by some of our Founding Fathers.

“Let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” -Thomas Jefferson

One cannot read the Kentucky resolution of 1798 and remain blinded to this truth:

“It would be a dangerous delusion were a confidence in the men of our choice to silence our fears for the safety of our rights; that confidence is everywhere the parent of despotism; free government is founded in jealousy, and not in confidence; it is jealousy, and not confidence, which prescribes limited constitutions to bind down those whom we are obligated to trust with power; that our Constitution has accordingly fixed the limits to which, and no farther, our confidence may go…In questions of power, then, let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” (The Kentucky Resolution of 1798,” Annals of America, 4:65-66; emphasis added.)

Concerning the rights of the people it has been noted:

“For it is a truth, which the experience of all ages has attested, that the people are commonly most in danger when the means of injuring their rights are in the possession of those [toward] whom they entertain the least suspicion.” (The Federalist Papers, No. 23, p. 164) -Alexander Hamilton

Who would deny this? Oh, trust me, there are many who would. They call themselves the elite, the educated, some even embrace the title of politician, preacher, or community leader. The Bible refers to them as fools, blind leaders, and even dumb dogs that cannot bark.

“His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.” -Isaiah 56:10

“The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.” -Proverbs 26:7

“Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” -Matthew 15:14

Furthermore, it amazes me how conservatives who hold to a biblical persuasion of some kind have allowed such infidels to set the rules by which we engage. Many well-meaning Americans have resolve to utilize human argument to confront evil.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" -Ephesians 6:12

We have shunned the power of God’s word and have come up short in combating this agenda of governmental control over ever sector of our lives. Christians and non-Christians alike have subjugated themselves to an abusive government.

Every biblical commandment also hinges on a biblical standard.

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” -Romans 13:1

“For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” -Romans 13:4, emphasis mine

When any power—and there is no power that is not of God—any person or any body politic is no longer serving to minister on God’s behalf (towards a person, a nation or a body of people for good), the God who inspired our Founding Fathers to craft the Constitution, to regulate government, also provided a means by which to overthrow such a government when it become disobedient to God’s order. The Founders understood this principle seeing as they were familiar with the vexations of an abusive government, which had imposed injuries on their American colonies for thirteen years.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for the light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

But, when long train of abuses and usurpations, pursing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.” (Thomas Jefferson’s words in the Declaration of Independence - Annals of America, 2:447-48) For part one click below.
