SCHOOL CHOICE AND CHARTERS WILL KILL PRIVATE EDUCATION
PART 1 of 2

By Charlotte Iserbyt

NewsWithViews.com

Have any of us ever seen such a whirlwind education controversy taking place nationwide? We have been maneuvered by "change agents at the highest level" into a position where there are really no legitimate/safe options for educating our children than "in the home."

This is safe only if home schoolers do not accept one penny of tax support from the federal, state, or local tax level, and do not participate in any public education, services or activities.

Activists, many of whom are reading this article, are working day and night to stop the Communist Core which, although very important due to its being the final implementation of a national computerized Marxist curriculum, is NOT the REAL issue. Communist Core, long in the works under other education restructuring initiatives such as The Nation at Risk and "assessment" labels, is not the REAL issue upon which our formerly free nation will stand or fall. The real issue is Americans' acceptance of charter schools with their unelected boards (Soviet council form of government). Simply put, this is "taxation without representation." This is a lethal issue as far as rights guaranteed to us under the United States Constitution. Once we give up our right to vote on important issues, and allow these issues to be decided by appointed persons, THE GAME IS OVER! Sitting in a prison cell, we will mull over the many days and hours we devoted to fighting Communist Core, which was a carefully crafted diversionary tactic used while the globalists were taking away our freedoms through charter schools with their unelected boards.

If we want to hold onto our formerly FREE form of government, we must STOP the implementation of ALL school choice initiatives, but especially the CHARTER SCHOOLS.

And, you rightfully ask, what do you, Charlotte, propose as a substitute for all the school choice proposals being promoted by the elitists at the helm of our ship of state? Since this article is not intended to be a treatise on the only option available to us, return of public education to the local level, my response will be brief:

Abolishing the U.S. Dept. of Education should have happened under President Reagan in the early eighties. Abolishing it now, unlikely as that might be, could be exactly what the "insiders" at the international/national level may want since education policy is now being directed not only by liberal/leftist/neo-conservative groups and the government bureaucracy, but by the multinational corporations, whose allegiance is to the almighty dollar, not to the U.S. Constitution.

If we abolish the Department of Education, we might just be handing its functions, including computerized data collection essential for workforce training needs, over to the multinational corporations who are behind the agenda to privatize our public education system through various school choice proposals. We must be careful what we wish for! If we leave the DOE where it is at 400 Maryland Avenue, Washington, D.C. we will retain our right to "watch dog" what it is doing, and go after its legislative agenda in the Congress.

The individual state departments of education should be abolished for they are nothing but clones of the federal Department of Education, and receive up to sixty percent of their operating budgets from the U.S. Department of Education. I recommended this in my 1985 booklet, "Back to Basics Reform or OBE...Skinnerian International Curriculum." This booklet, which foretold everything taking place today, was boycotted by the major conservative organizations in our nation.

We make a major effort to restore our schools at the local level. We had the finest academic system of education in the world prior to passage of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). First of all, we should return to our non-consolidated system of education. All schools that have fallen into the consolidation trap should be returned to their autonomous, individual status, which allows for true local control. How about allowing Mom and Dad to be close enough to their child's school to attend school board meetings? We must require that school superintendents be elected, just as school boards are elected.

We have a school policy which states that "behaviorist" programs,( which can be used alone or in conjunction with the computer, based on the sick philosophy of Pavlov and B.F. Skinner), believe our children are animals to be trained, not educated. This needs to be FORBIDDEN. We eliminate "individualized," non-competitive education except for children with special needs. "Individualized" education has just become a code word for intensive brainwashing of the individual child into a global citizen. We return our schools to K-12, A,B,C,D,F, and competition, using Carnegie units which require four years of math, science, English (not language arts), history. The focus should especially be on United States history, with an emphasis on protection of individual rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. We should not allow calculators in math classes, nor do we allow computers at any level of the K-12 experience. We teach reading using Samuel Blumenfeld's Alpha Phonics, NOT Engelman's animal-training, Skinnerian Direct Instruction. Link, p.75, 81,117, 363, 366, 435. We would require the teaching of cursive hand writing, and the learning of the multiplication tables. We would not have a school-to-work system which identifies children at an early age as to what job they will be best suited in the future. We revert to the extra-curricular vocational education which allowed students who are geared to creating, not just learning, to have a great outlet for their talents in woodworking, metal work, etc. We restore ample time for art, music and sports. We revert to using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.

We would require that teachers have a one-on-one conference with each of their student's parents at least once a semester. We would expel students for serious infractions of the rules, not for kicking an empty milk carton down the hall. We do not use movies, videos and books which would have, in the recent past, been considered by the adult community as pornographic. We would require teachers to be examples of good character and to instill in their students what have been considered sound morals and values throughout the history of Western civilization. We do not allow the teaching of any one religion, especially the religion of "no right/no wrong" of Secular Humanism, which has been the approved religion taught in our schools since 1965. We require teachers to teach basic academics, and we promise them they will NOT be paid for performance. Teachers alone will be in charge of what and how they teach.

There will be a school board policy which spells out very clearly what and how curriculum is to be taught and tested, what is expected of teachers, and what will not be tolerated. We abolish our state Schools of Education, and require our teachers to pass a very simple strictly academic test based on what they know (K-12), related to factual math, science, English, history, and foreign languages. Nothing will be based on how they can "perform" Skinnerian pedagogy. We would require that they be interviewed by the entire school board prior to the decision to hire. All teacher applicants, not just those selected by the Superintendent, should be interviewed for teaching positions. And I could go on and on.

Training for the workforce has its place, just as college has its place: after satisfactory completion of K-12 our children will again be better educated than students graduating from college today! They probably won't even need a liberal arts education. They will have received it in the public schools. After graduation our students can pursue higher learning or training for the workforce. Or, we might just suggest that, after they have been through the resurrected and restored public school system, they may be ready to start their own businesses! The money parents put away each pay day to send their children to college would better be saved for that big graduation day, when Mom and Dad can present their piggy bank savings to their son or daughter, saying, "Take this and go start your own business!"

Yes, there will be some very serious problems to solve in returning to the local level, problems with federal funding, problems dealing with the teachers' union, problems related to programs for special needs children. However, whatever problems we encounter could NEVER in a million years equal the following problems which will result from the present internationalist privatization (tax-supported school choice) agenda being forced down our throats right now which will very likely result in:

1. THE DEATH OF ACADEMIC EDUCATION: TRADITIONAL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE (RELIGIOUS AND SECULAR) AND HOME SCHOOLING, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE COMMUNIST/SOCIALIST SCHOOL-TO-WORK SYSTEM LIFELONG.

2. THE VERY LIKELY END OF OUR REPRESENTATIVE FORM OF GOVERNMENT DUE TO ACCEPTANCE OF UNELECTED BOARDS PRESENTLY BEING APPROVED BY AMERICANS WHO SUPPORT CHARTER SCHOOLS.

Here is a summary of how we Americans arrived at this point and how we can turn this Lose/Lose (rock and a hard place) situation around. If enough of us understand the REAL ISSUE and stop allowing ourselves to be diverted by other issues, important as they may be, we could save our nation from becoming just another "ism" country in this world. Take your choice: socialism, fascism, communism. Put your own label on what is being served up to us peons by the globalists who are presently meeting in South Carolina to determine "our" futures, using our children as their pawns in the global governance game.

AND ALL OF THIS THROUGH THE INNOCENT-SOUNDING TAX-SUPPORTED SCHOOL CHOICE PROPOSALS NECESSARY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF SOVIET POLYTECH WORKFORCE TRAINING.

C. S. Lewis, the noted English writer said, "When training beats education, civilization dies."

Here is a bit of history behind "their" agenda. "Their" includes "approved" members of both political parties which are now working together (corporate fascism with no accountability to the taxpayers). They have the same goal, planned socialist economy run by unelected councils, a Soviet. How best to gain control than through deliberately dumbing down the schools, blaming the teachers, who are the last ones to be blamed, and the teachers' unions (even union members don't know they are controlled at the top by the tax-exempt foundations). Check the index in my book for NEA's Cardinal Principals Visited, and look at the individuals on the pre-planning committee, David Rockefeller and McGeorge Bundy (The Order of Skull and Bones at Yale).

These, and many more people of the same collectivist persuasion in the tax-exempt foundations, corporations, on Wall Street, in the media, teachers' unions (at top), National Governors Association, Council of Chief State School Officers, etc. behind the scenes, do not believe in our constitutional form of government, which calls for elected officials, not appointed councils. Nor do these people believe in a truly free market economy which promotes the best interest of the individual which leads to his/her upward mobility. The school-to-work agenda, which, of course, includes Communist Core, being implemented as I write, will control every aspect of your child's life, lifelong. He/she will be nothing but a cog in "their" machine. The system uses specific quotas, as in Cuba or any communist country, determined by the school/business partnerships. For instance, if the corporation needs five welders, but your son who wants to be a welder is number 6 on the list, he will not be able to get the training to further his career goals. Professor Boyce, University of Georgia, said "In communist countries they do not educate for jobs that don't exist." Representative government allows "We the People," not "them" to be in charge of our lives.

"They" do not like our free representative form of government since it doesn't allow them the controls necessary to implement the global system (political, economic, social and religious). Elected boards restrict their nefarious plans for our children...to use our children to spin off profits for "their" global elite.

Ask yourself what there is about charter schools that they like. Most important is the fact charter schools, although "public," are not run by elected boards. Elected boards are a huge stumbling block. Few elected school board members would opt for Lenin's lifelong Soviet work force training over academic education, or opt for getting rid of grades A-F, K-12, no competition, graduating at 14 or 21, and Total Quality Management, p. 88, 119, 124-125, individualized education for each child, to better brainwash him in globalist values using the computer. This academically lethal Reinventing Schools Coalition (RISC) program has morphed into Maine Customized Learning which, aside from being academically bankrupt, is heavily into Robert Marzano's Marxist critical thinking. Check this link and read this quote from their website:

Bea McGarvey is a Maine native who dedicated a 30-year career to Maine schools. She has served in the past decade as a distinguished education consultant for more than 100 schools and districts, as well as state and federal education agencies, specifically in the areas of teaching and learning, leadership, and organizational development. Currently, she is a partner in Total Leaders Associates and a senior associate at Marzano Research Lab. McGarvey is co-author with Charles Schwahn of “Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning – Learning in the Age of Empowerment.”

These people move slowly. School choice has been on the drawing board for many years. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has supported school choice/vouchers for many years. Please read the late Erica Carle's superb article related to the "real" goals of the USCC. She truly was a brilliant education researcher.

An example of one major neo-conservative organization's distaste for our traditional free market system follows:

The Washington, D.C. Heritage Foundation, which has affiliates in all states, including Maine, supports the schools' involvement in workforce training (apprenticeships) and all forms of tax-supported school choice, including charter schools with their unelected councils. How many good Americans who support the Heritage Foundation's activities know that Richard Allen, of the Heritage Foundation, drafted The North American Free Trade Agreement which has been responsible for the loss of hundreds of thousands of American jobs?

One could reasonably ask "How on earth could a truly conservative organization draft an agreement which basically called for "the redistribution of American wealth, out of the United States to China and Third World countries?" (Remember Ross Perot and his opposition to NAFTA? His prediction has come true regarding NAFTA's robbing America of its good jobs, and calling that robbing "a giant sucking sound?") [Link]

In my opinion, Heritage's drafting of NAFTA was part of the dialectic being played out right now. If Heritage, with its Fabian socialist agenda, and other neo-con Trotskyite national groups, have as their goal One World Socialist Government, they had to create the problem (loss of jobs through NAFTA) in order to get the people (parents worried their children won't be able to find a job in the "New" economy) to support moving from academic education for upward mobility to the Soviet workforce polytech quota system. This transition also required using for the first time, charter schools (which, by the way, are international) with their UNELECTED councils which would transition from academic learning to socialist workforce training, something an elected board would be unlikely to approve.
