THE BREAD OF LIFE

The crisis on the border has just begun its planned devastation on our republic. The question I haven’t seen answered until this week is why now are all these unaccompanied minors illegally crossing our boarders at this time? It turns out there is an obscure Obama administration policy that’s deliberately driving this flood of illegal unaccompanied minors. “This policy [and executive order] issued in August of 2013… is called the ‘Family Interest Directive,’ and it essentially forbids Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from deporting, arresting or even detaining any illegal immigrant who is the caretaker of a child. That includes parents, legal guardians and even unrelated adults who merely claim they care for the child in question without any proof. The theory behind the directive is that it would be morally wrong to separate children from their ‘caretakers’.”[1]

The human cost of this Executive Order is mind boggling, and the financial cost is staggering. It is not just the 4 billion Obama claims is needed immediately. There are aircraft leased to fly them throughout the country, medical care, not to mention their food and clothing. One congressional report spoke of $1,000.00 per day per illegal minor. That’s $57,000,000.00 per day, and more than 1.7 billion per month, you begin to get the idea of how costly this is.

Well, the history of humankind is the history of migrations. For example, the fall of the Roman Empire was accelerated by the vast migrations of the Huns, the Goths, Visigoths, Ostrogoths and most famously the Vandals. Those patterns of migration hastened the destruction of that Empire. In my opinion that is what the New World Order minions are up to by setting policies to hasten the end of our country.

When a vast migration takes place the greatest challenge for those on the move is food and water – the essentials. The Children of Israel had a great migration, which consisted of more than 2 million peoples not to mention livestock and draft animals. At the 45 day point from departure from Egypt, this is what happened.

Take up Your Cross - Exodus 16:1-3

“And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

I don’t know what was in the mind of the Israelites in Egypt, but it appears they had no idea how difficult and challenging this Exodus would be. We could speak just as clearly that the high cost of discipleship, following Christ – many start off following Jesus Christ until they discover the high price. The Israelites loved slavery rather than freedom in Christ. We see that they saw advantages to begin slaves in Egypt and they were not happy about losing the security of slavery.

Do you find this is true just as much today as then? Many would rather be beholden to a civil ruler who enslaves them, just so long as he makes that slavery comfortable. They really don’t want freedom. At root is a form of idolatry – worshiping civil government as if it were God. Looking to it for your provision of daily bread.

We know true liberty is only found in Christ Jesus our Lord and Master, but following Christ does not promise to be an easy road. In fact that is why Jesus’ own invitation to be His disciple doesn’t start off with “God has a wonderful plan for your life…”Instead it begins with “Take up your cross daily and follow me.”

The Children of Israel were desperate. They were without food and fearing starvation, but they should have remembered the lessons of the waters of Marah and Elim. The lessons that, in desperate situations, God can and does provide for His people. They should have remembered the crossing of the Red Sea and the desperate circumstances God miraculously delivered them from on that day.

Jesus is the Bread of Life. “The life of Christianity consists of possessive pronouns,” says Martin Luther. It is one thing to say, “Christ is a Saviour”; it is quite another thing to say, “He is my Saviour and my Lord.” The devil can say the first; the true Christian alone can say the second.
