WHY PRO-LIFE GROUPS LOVE OBAMA

By Dr. Patrick Jonston

Pro-life organizations around the nation are in a full sprint fund-raising campaign to get signed petitions to Washington, D.C., to try and sabotage Obama’s announced plan to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), in essence, will overrule all of the restrictions that states have passed limiting abortions. It would be the most pro-abortion piece of legislation that Congress has ever passed, finally putting to rest the argument that legal abortion is a Supreme Court usurpation of Constitutional limitations. With FOCA, Congress would finally transcend the absurdity of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision to make abortion a fundamental right – like freedom of speech.

With every Email or fear-filled mass mailer, you can just sense the hand-wringing and brow-sweating. “FOCA Would Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide,” reads one website, warning of the eradication of state pro-life legislation such as “Bans on Partial Birth Abortion - Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion - Only licensed physicians can perform abortions - Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter's abortion… Sign this petition and send a much needed donation right away!” (quoted from the website FightFOCA.com.) The more pro-life Americans are outraged about FOCA, the more money that pro-life groups can make. They stand to be more financially successful under the Democrats than they do under the Republicans!

Sincere pro-lifers look with admiration upon a President and a Party who takes their commitment about abortion seriously. Unfortunately, the only President and Party with serious devotion to the abortion issue are the Democrats who want abortion-on-demand. The Republicans had their six years with a “pro-life” President and a Republican majority in the House and Senate, and how many lives have been saved as a result? How many millions of dollars have we expended to pass our Unborn Victims of Violence Act, our Fetal Pain Awareness Act, and our Partial Birth Abortion Act, all the while never delivering justice? The Holocaust continues unabated by our political victories, our pro-life speeches, our calls to our Congressman, and our million-dollar fundraisers “for the children”. If only the Republicans would be as enthusiastic about doing justice for the preborn as the Democratic Party is about killing them.

All those pro-lifers who cast their lot with Bush should bow their heads in shame. They either knew or should have known that Bush appointed judges that justified abortion, adamantly opposed state bans on abortion, justified abortion in cases of rape and incest, funded abortions through Title X of Medicaid every year, and gave more tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion organization in the world, than any previous President. Rather than repent of endorsing a political savior that committed evil in office, momentum gave us more of the same. The precedent for our unconditional support for the lesser of two evils has been set, and the lesser evil has gotten more evil just as expected.

Just look at who the Republicans got this year as their candidate – John McCain, one of the most liberal, anti-life Republican candidates for President we have ever had! He sponsored legislation restricting the free speech rights of pro-life organizations and he was a strong proponent of forcing taxpayers to fund embryo-killing stem cell research. He justified abortion in cases of rape and incest. In his 2000 Presidential election bid he stated that he didn’t believe the Roe v. Wade decision should be overturned. In a South Carolina debate with George W. Bush before the 2000 election, John McCain expressly opposed the pro-life plank of the Republican Party platform. He voted to fund government distribution of abortifacients like the morning-after pill and progestin-only birth control pills to unmarried adolescents, which can be given to underage children even if their parents object. John McCain did not support a Human Life Amendment to the United States Constitution, nor is he supporting legislation in the U.S. Senate which would end legalized child-killing in America. He voted to confirm pro-abortion Stephen Breyer and pro-abortion ACLU-activist Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Supreme Court. He called Bush-appointee Sam Alito “too conservative”. McCain also voted for David Satcher for Surgeon General, who supports partial-birth abortion.

Yet the pro-life Judas Iscariots still lined up to endorse the lesser of two evils. Even James Dobson, who once said that his conscience could never allow him to support John McCain for office, capitulated to the fear of Obama to come out and support McCain. The Abortion Holocaust could not continue without the aid of America’s Christian leaders. They have traded the lives of God’s little children for a back row seat at the Republican table. They are like the Jewish betrayers who shoved fellow Jews into the ovens in exchange for extra rations from their Nazi rulers.

With Obama’s FOCA legislation likely to be passed by a Democratic Congress, and with at least two more judges to be appointed to the Supreme Court in the next four years, finally pro-lifers have an opportunity to pick a fight that, if won, would actually win justice for the preborn. All of our fights to regulate abortion have made us accomplices in the murders that occur with our permission. Now maybe we’ll stop pretending like we’ll get a pro-life Supreme Court in our lifetime, and we will draw a battle line where God’s wrath would actually be abated with our victory.

States should begin to do what they should have done in 1973: ignore Roe v. Wade, that unconstitutional usurpation that defies the law of God, and re-criminalize abortion in accordance with divine mandates. This is exactly what brave pro-lifers in Colorado tried to do this year in their attempt to amend the state constitution through a ballot initiative. Protecting the innocent through the administration of justice is the obligation of local civil authorities (Romans 13, Deuteronomy 19 and 21). If only we would draw a line in the sand where God’s Word draws it, maybe God would fight for us. After all, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Instead, we continue to move the line further and further to the left, until now we find the most anti-life, God-hating Republican candidates campaigning beside us. How can God bless our efforts when we have played by the devil’s rulebook and trusted in the arm of the flesh for victory? How can He answer our prayers to protect the innocent preborn children when we campaign for candidates that will kill some innocent people by abortion (whether they be Downs Syndrome babies or whether they were conceived through rape or incest)? How can God give us victory when we are such hypocrites: our best pro-life legislative victories conclude “…and then you can kill the baby.” We aren’t offering a remedy to the evil of abortion; we are the malady! The salt has lost its saltiness. It’s good for nothing!

The South didn’t lose the Civil War because they were wrong to secede from a contract into which they entered voluntarily and which the federal party violated. The South lost the Civil War because God couldn’t bless their struggle for independence with their legalized slavery. They were hypocrites. The mote was in their eye, and they could not see clearly to cast the log out of their brother’s eye. As they judged, they were judged.

Finally, thanks to the Obama administration and FOCA, we can begin to turn from the Judas Iscariots that have transformed the pro-life movement into a perpetual fundraising effort, and we can begin to discover a battle that puts us on the right side of the line in the sand. Now, as always, God doesn’t need a majority; just a minority with pure hearts and with full faith in God on the right side of God’s line in the sand. Let the states begin lead the way in defying tyranny and protecting the innocent within their borders in obedience to divine law.
