Grants Pass

Now that the Religious Freedom Restoration Acts have been gutted in both Indiana and Arkansas, and it’s still a function of government to force Christians to take part in activities that outrage their consciences, the Loving Left seeks new worlds to conquer. They’ve tasted blood, and now they want flesh.

On just one day last week, Wednesday, these four stories were reported in the news.

The New York Times ran an op-ed, by a former food editor, demanding that Christianity be “made”—that is, forced—“to embrace the gay lifestyle.” Because “science” and “progress” totally invalidate Christian morality, you see.

*Other voices of organized sodomy demanded that all Christian churches be forced to perform “gay marriages” or else be taxed out of existence by the federal government.

*Not for the first time, Climate Change fanatics demanded that “Climate Change Deniers” be imprisoned for their crime of unbelief.

*And in Canada they’re talking about abolishing the exemption for doctors who, for reasons of conscience, will not perform abortions. For the sake of Choice, the Pro-Choice cr0wd wishes to remove the choice. But then who says these people are loaded down with sanity?

Not since Mao’s Cultural Revolution has tyranny been so triumphantly on the march.

None of these brownshirt wannabes would ever demand that a Jewish florist create a swastika flower arrangement for a neo-Nazi beer party (or would they?), or that a Muslim caterer should be forced to do the honors at an outdoor hog roast, or that a homosexual who owns a print shop be forced to print up a bunch of “God Hates Fags” signs for the Westboro Baptist Church. Especially not that! Why, any of these would constitute intolerance, and it’s only right to be intolerant to Christians.

But then they aren’t sane. They’re progressives—which means that have an insatiable hunger for power over others. They must bully, they must dominate, they must crush all opposition no matter how ineffectual that opposition may be, silence all dissent—or else they just can’t sleep at night. For them, a day without forcing someone to do something that’s morally abhorrent to him, is a day not lived.

They like to say that all they’re doing is preventing Christians from “dominating other religions.” Who is being “dominated” by a Christian baker’s refusal to create a “gay wedding” cake? Which is those “other religions” do they have in mind?

Could it be that libs and progs have raised sexual peculiarities to the status of religion? Judging by their fanaticism, that is exactly what they’ve done. To a Muslim, it’s publishing cartoons making fun of Muhammad. To a left-wing loony lib, it’s refusing to “celebrate” homosexuality, transgenderism, or something even more exotic. How dare they not take part in a gay wedding? The world must be made safe from Christian bakers!

They are eager to break a lot of eggs to make that omelet.

In this fallen world, we are all sinners. That’s why we should never, ever give to sinners the kind of power that these more than ordinarily wicked persons are demanding. Unless we are reigned in by God’s laws and our consciences, we all turn into savages. But these people are restrained by neither.

In 1975, when California passed a Consenting Adult Sex Bill, Bob Hope quipped, “I’ve just flown in from California, where they’ve made homosexuality legal. I thought I’d get out before they made it compulsory.”

That joke is not so funny anymore.

And are we even sure it’s still a joke?
