We really aren’t free in America anymore. We just think we are. Government has injected itself into every area of our lives.
Government is supposed to be a verb...self-government…but we have turned it into a noun…THE GOVERNMENT. Government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” was designed to be a process whereby folks were empowered to control themselves.
It was never meant to be a top-down tyrant playing the role of a parent to a free people.
True freedom comes from the individual’s restraint on the heart. Self-government is the only means of true liberty. As Founding Father Robert Winthrop wrote:
All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. The less they may have of stringent State Government, the more they must have of individual self-government. The less they rely on public law or physical force, the more they must rely on private moral restraint. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet.
All laws are nothing more than man’s efforts to control the heart of men. When our government-schools removed the Bible from the education of our children they removed the only possible means whereby our nation would teach inward restraints on the heart of the individual. Reject the Bible, sharpen the bayonet. It is the natural progression of licentiousness on steroids.
Americans have been “endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights”…interesting isn’t it…there are no “inalienable wrongs.” The precepts of the Bible grant us the ability to do right…not the right to do wrong.
Read that paragraph again. It is more profound than you understand. Only a nation that has a firm understanding of right and wrong, good and evil can survive.
The Bible or the Bayonet. Time is running out on America.
I love words…the English language. I am always fascinated by our inability to understand the meanings of words. In 2009 I wrote Change the Words, Change the World. I suggest you read it. It explains why we are in such trouble.
Ignorant is one of those words that we no longer use in context. If you look it up in the dictionary you will find the common usage of the word to be lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned.
But the root word of ignorant is ignore…refrain from noticing or recognizing…showing that to be “ignorant” means to refrain from recognizing knowledge…or rejecting knowledge.
Ignorance is not just lacking knowledge…but rather, choosing to IGNORE knowledge. What was it Reagan said…"the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so."
Well, it isn’t just the “liberals” who are ignorant. In fact, they aren’t the problem. The problem is with the ignorant Christians who ignore knowledge. That’s what makes them ignorant…they ignore, or reject, the Truth.
Christians don’t read their Bibles. In fact, according to a recent survey 80% of church-goers do not open the Good Book apart from their weekly church attendance. Let that sink in. No wonder so many Christians are no different from the world. They ignore the only source of real Truth. Biblical ignorance. It is not that they don’t have the source of Truth, but rather, they ignore it. No wonder Christians are so confused.
Conservative talk-radio has replaced the Bible as the source of Truth for most Christians. Rush is “the truth detector.” Hannity says “let not your heart be troubled” but never finishes the verse “ye believe in God, believe also in me” which points them to the Author of Truth.
Is it any wonder the average Christian can’t recognize the difference between “conservatism” and Christianity?
Only the “Truth” can make one free. Christians are imprisoned by ignorance. They have ignored the Truth. Self-deception is the spawn of ignorance. They ignore the Truth, and choose to follow someone else’s interpretation of it.
Our culture has made Americans soft. This is especially true of Christians. That is why they don’t read their Bibles. In today’s instant-gratification culture most of us are too lazy to investigate for oneself. They would rather have Hannity, or Rush, or their Pastor tell them the way things oughta be.
Christianity is losing every war in the battle for the culture and the weapons of the opposing forces are disinformation and lies. The average Christian is incapable of rebutting the lies of the enemy because they don’t read their Bibles. In doing so, they block the revelation of the Holy Spirit Who “will guide them unto all truth.”
The Word is our Sword…our weapon. Most Christians are not proficient in wielding it. Rush can’t train you, Hannity doesn’t use it, Fox News doesn’t quote from it, and your Pastor doesn’t even ask you to take to Sunday service with you.
We are imprisoned by ignorance. This not hard, folks. Cause and effect is easy to follow in this trail of misery.
Many pastors no longer preach from the Bible. Most church-goers don’t even carry one with them when they go to church. In order to be sensitive to “seekers” the Sunday Scripture is projected on an overhead screen so that attendees never learn to navigate their way through the various books of the Bible.

The great problem in America is that your preachers have soaked people with truth that they can't live up to -- and don't wish to. Do they come with tears trickling down their cheeks and say 'I have got to repent' ?" -Richard Owen Roberts
The responsibility for the condition of this nation still falls squarely into the laps of those who profess the name of Christ. They declare that they want a return to a “Christian nation.” They want a nation where Christian values are espoused…a nation where God’s name is exalted above the government.
They want those values imposed on their neighbors…they just don’t want to have to follow those values themselves.
Mitt Romney is not going to change America. Unfortunately, Christians have become convinced by Rush and the boys that voting “the lesser of two evils” is somehow a winning strategy.
That is the height of ignorance. The Bible speaks against evil…it never says to vote for it. We are imprisoned by ignorance, not because we can’t find the Truth, but because we choose to ignore it.
Christians believe government-schools are not harming their children. Christians believe that homosexuals shouldn’t muddy the marriage waters, while 50% of their own marriages end in divorce. Christians don’t believe the national debt is a crisis because they are loaded down with personal debt. Christians believe it is the job of the government to take care of the poor because they don’t want to have to get their own hands dirty. Christians tolerate dishonesty in elected officials because they are dishonest in their own lives. Christians believe child murder is “choice.”

The Bible is the source of all Truth. A Christian must believe that, and do his/her best to live by the precepts it espouses. John Adams, the author of the Constitution warned us:
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Most Americans are no longer moral.
Christians know where the Truth can be found…but they are more comfortable with Bill O’Reilly “looking out for them.”
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.” We have rejected the Truth, ignored the Truth, and suppressed the Truth. Tyranny has become our big brother.
American’s are imprisoned by ignorance.
