THE ALETHEA REPORT

For many decades there have been notables such as H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw and Bertrand Russell advocating the killing of those "unworthy of life." The general public has seen their remarks, though, as simply the attitude of isolated elitists, and not part of a plan for euthanasia. To the contrary, there has been such a plan!

Robert Hugh Benson, who had been around many elitists, in 1907 wrote LORD OF THE WORLD. In this book, he noted that the Communist movement would come to the fore in 1917 (the exact year of the Russian Revolution). And among his other later proven correct "predictions," he said that as America drifted toward Socialism under a Big Brother-type figure, there would be Ministers of Euthanasia (like Dr. Jack Kevorkian) by 1998. It is my understanding that today nearly every U.S. state, including Florida, has a law against assisted suicide (as Dr. Kevorkian performed). If one is to believe Michael Schiavo regarding the wishes of his wife, Terri, then what happened to her was clearly an assisted suicide, which is supposed to be illegal ! If Dr. Kevorkian is still in jail for assisted suicide, wouldn't it seem that anyone "assisting" Terri Schiavo in her alleged wish not to live in her severely disabled condition should be in jail also?

In February 1974, a secret 42-page report was actually prepared by a euthanasia Task Force on Death and Dying. The secret report was exposed by Charles R. Pulver in THE WANDERER (February 20, 1975) and was formally called "A Social Invention." It became commonly known as The Alethea Report and detailed a 10-year plan to achieve their goals. "Strategic action...setting a time for a goal to occur," and changing the "values of self and the values of society" were covered on pages 5-7 of The Alethea Report. A massive "system of education" would begin, and in 1974 "concerned professionals and laypersons" would hold group sessions on death and dying (D&D) with patients and families (p.36 ALETHEA).

In 1975 the D&D movement would be "recognized by the community" and would give seminars (p.35). By 1976, government grants could be given to medical schools which would support the D&D movement. And in 1977, a powerful thanatology (death science) lobby would join with "life science" pressure groups to have D&D courses in public schools (segments on "Death" would be in "Family Life Education").

Do you remember children talking about the "Lifeboat game" in school where they had to decide whom to throw overboard (kill) for the survival of the rest? Among the testimonies given to the U.S. Department of Education from March 13-27, 1984, when I was a Senior Associate there, was that of a Mrs. Dellinger as recorded in CHILD ABUSE IN THE CLASSROOM (edited by Phyllis Schlafly). Mrs. Dellinger testified: "A survival game which my 7th grade son participated in required him to eliminate five out of ten whom they did not have room for on a spaceship. This is a subtle way to accept genocide, to become desensitized to euthanasia and infanticide, and to destroy religious beliefs (for the clergyman is always the oldest, or nearly the oldest, and he is certainly to be eliminated)." And do you remember the infamous federally funded MACOS program which included a lesson presenting a positive image of some Eskimos who leave their elderly out on the ice to die of starvation or worse? The authors of THE ALETHEA REPORT even anticipated parental resistance to this type of education (p.34).

By 1978 the ALETHEA authors would have the federal government setting "guidelines...as to when the individual has the right to choose his own death." Between 1979 and 1981, "living wills are now seen as valid in every State of the Union" so that "death with dignity" could occur. And legislation would be "passed allowing participant and doctor, or---if patient is unable to decide---participant's family to decide course of treatment" (pp.32-33). And by 1982-83, "living wills are accepted in court in defense of malpractice suits," and "prolonging life is now considered as immoral as murder"---"the patient will morally and legally have the final say" regarding treatment and time and mode of death (p.31).

Anticipating opposition to such legislation, the secret report contains a letter a physician will write to his family on October 15, 1983 stating: "We will have an occasional problem with families who are not reconciled to the legislation, but the law provides adequate protection so the physician can treat his ill patient. Unfortunately, this still leaves the occasional embittered family, but I hope more and more people will see the justice and the value of this law and will no longer be embittered" (p.28). And the report's authors even have "back-up and follow-up" plans (p.35).

Of course, the agenda of the euthanasia supporters has continued past the 10-year ALETHEA plan while an oblivious public has been busy pursuing the "fun god," watching inane sitcoms and soap operas on TV. The result has been that many helpless Americans have been starved to death, Terri Schiavo only being the most recent and widely publicized.

And before you buy the propaganda that these starvation deaths are "compassionate, serene, and even euphoric," note the appearance of those starved to death in wartime concentration camps and those starving today in Africa.

Haven't we now also set the precedent that society has no responsibility to feed those (e.g., infants, paralyzed veterans, etc.) unable to feed themselves? What do we say to the teenager who delivers her baby in the school bathroom, abandons the baby in a dumpster, and says "I didn't kill the baby. I just 'allowed her or him to die' by not feeding the baby"?

In 1987, 32-year-old Nancy Ellen Jobes died of dehydration at her parents' request, even though 2 neurologists agreed she was aware, responsive and purposeful. This is because the New Jersey Supreme Court upheld lower court decisons that family members could refuse medical care even without clear evidence of a patient's wish. And on August 26, 2004, the Kentucky Supreme Court granted legal authority to the State of Kentucky to end the life of a citizen of the State even though it was contrary to the wishes of the person's guardian ad litem.

Welcome to the Brave New World of euthanasia. It probably is already in a hospice or hospital near you. Do you think this is an alarmist overstatement? In early March 2005, Dr. William Mammesfhar (a Nobel-prize nominee and internationally recognized expert on brain injuries) visited Terri Schiavo and said he believed she could eventually eat and drink on her own. He also indicated that with therapy, she could talk and regain use of her arm and hand. If our judicial system can order the killing of such an innocent person, what makes you think they won't order your death?
