Part 1: Just touching the surface of our problems

Every night on the national and local news, you watch Americans squabble and complain “for” or “against” something that bothers them.

Millions of other Americans remain silent in their homes without any participation in this country’s affairs. As a matter of fact, a whopping 50 percent of all eligible Americans fail to vote in national elections. A stunning 90 percent fail to vote in local elections. In other words, they don’t care about what happens in or to their country.

What else don’t Americans care about?

Americans may jump up and down about the cost of health care. They complain about Obamacare. They cry at the cancer rates.

But their actions speak louder than words. A horrendous 65 percent of Americans walk around terribly overweight and 30 percent of that 65 percent warrant the term “grossly obese.” All total, over two-thirds or something like 200,000,000 (million) Americans don’t care enough about their health to eat correctly and exercise.

Thus, we see a medical human pile-up forming across this country at breakneck speed. Childhood obesity and diabetes accelerates off the charts. McDonald’s and other fast food joints lead the way toward heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Pizza joints sell millions of their cheese-filled pies to obese Americans with giant cups of Coca-Cola to wash it down.

Over two-thirds of Americans don’t care about their health, so why the big complaint about health care?

How about our nation’s highways and drunk driving deaths? Every year, 14,000 to 17,000 Americans lose their lives to drunk drivers. Mothers Against Drunk Driving estimates that over 12 million Americans drive drunk on our nation’s highways 24/7. God knows the number of Americans texting at 70 mph!

No matter how many deaths, we fail to enact laws to stop the carnage. We don’t impound the cars to stop those drunks. We don’t make the consequences prohibitive enough. Therefore, drunk drivers and texters continue their killing spree annually.

How about smoking? Over 450,000 lung cancer deaths annually stem from smoking. Do 50 million smokers care about their health? Not on your life. Do the corporate men who run Marlboro, Lucky Strike and Cool cigarettes care about that many deaths? Take a guess.

What about the 10-year war in Iraq and 12-year war in Afghanistan? Over 4,400 men died in that contrived war by George W. Bush. He lied and those kids died. Over 1,200 died in Afghanistan and still die today after bin Laden saw his life extinguished at the hands of our Navy Seals. The war continues, but do the American people care? Not a chance. They remain as silent as the lambs. The bankers and generals keep that war going, but not a whimper from American citizens.

What about heart attacks hitting 1.4 million Americans annually? Do you think those people would do something to thwart their impending heart attacks? Nope. Just order double cheese on their pizzas and another giant Coke. At breakfast, order greasy eggs, bacon, sausage and sweet rolls to clog up their arteries so they can obtain quadruple vein bypass grafts once their vessels shut down.

What about our Congress and President Obama? Do they care about 48 million Americans subsisting of food stamps and Section 8 Housing? Are they doing anything? In the past five years, food stamp users jumped from 36 million to 48 million. Obviously, Congress and Obama don’t give a crap about creating jobs and an economy that works for Americans.

How about immigration? For the past 30 years, over 20 million illegal aliens entered the USA and continue working and living here with our own citizens scratching for jobs. Does Congress or Obama care? Not on your life.

Eric Holder with Obama’s hand sues any states trying to protect themselves from this modern day invasion. The president of the United States refuses to enforce the laws of our country. Do the American people care? Not a chance. They re-elected Obama as they did Bush and Clinton before him. None of them enforced our immigration laws to help our own citizens secure living-wage jobs.

What about treating our wounded veterans with top-notch health care? As you know, General Shinseki flounders with ineptness and incompetence while our injured warriors commit suicide by the thousands for lack of care. Do the American people pay attention? Nope! That’s why it continues.

Today, 68 percent of African-American children grow up with a single mother and most of them on welfare. No fathers, no jobs, no home life, no balance, no future. Do you think Obama and Congress could solve such a problem by bringing jobs back to America by stopping the importation of cheap goods from China? Do you think they could stop injecting 1.1 million legal immigrants into this country annually? Answer: not happening. They would rather help the world’s people than our own citizens.

The Black family structure disintegrates before our eyes into crime, drugs, illiteracy, hopelessness, Black Flash Mobs and intractable poverty. Yet, Obama plays golf every weekend while his wife tells us to “report anyone making racial slurs.” Welcome 1984!

We spent $1.5 trillion in Iraq and Afghanistan building up their countries, but our infrastructure, bridges and water systems fail miserably. Will Congress and Obama address our collapsing infrastructure by putting Americans to work to fix the problem. Sorry; ain’t happening.

Americans discard 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. They discard just about as many glass containers and aluminum cans. Those containers along with millions of plastic bags scatter into every lake, stream and river in America. They finally make their way to our oceans to create the 100 million ton “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” that Oprah highlighted on her show 10 years ago. Did the American people scream for a 25-cent deposit-return law to save our environment and save the oceans from so much debris choking the natural world? Only six states enjoy 5-cent deposit laws on containers and Michigan leads with 10-cent deposit.

Does anyone care about our oceans being choked with trash? Nope! Not a chance.

This spring, Monarch butterflies face extinction because of Monsanto’s Round-up pesticide now seeping so deeply into the food chain that it’s killing everything in the natural world. Will anyone stand up and speak out? Will they stop using it? Will the manufacturers of pesticides and herbicides take the ethical path to stop making those poisons? Just go down the isle at your local Home Depot or Loewe’s Hardware stores. Poisons galore to kill every living thing in the natural world. Ultimately, you face a family member contracting cancer from those poisons landing on the foods you eat.

Dear reader, I haven’t even scratched the surface as to how fast we humans destroy our civilization, our country and our children’s lives by our apathy.

If you do care, get involved. Organize in your community. Take action at the local level. We desperately need a 25-cent deposit-return law for all containers sold in the USA and every country in the world. We need to stop making wars. We need to take care of our citizens. We need to stop using Round-up and other poisons killing our bees. We need to vote good people into Congress who will take action. We need term limits. It all starts with your personal action.

Do I see changes for the good coming? Answer: not a chance. Most Americans won’t budge off their Barker Lounger.
