EMBRACING A PLAUSIBLE FUTURE

A recent commentary by the superintendent of Eagle County schools asked Coloradans to "Embrace the Future" by changing from a mono-language society to a duo-language country. Additionally, the commentary addressed the current minority becoming the new majority. Additionally, if America continues on its current immigration path, we expect 100 million immigrants, their children and chain-migrated relatives within 36 years by 2050. As to turning ourselves into a multi-lingual society, former Governor Richard D. Lamm said in a speech in Washington, DC which I attended, "Here is how they destroyed their countries: first, turn America into a bilingual or multi lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way, “The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon—all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons and Corsicans.”

Today, because of 50 plus different languages in Denver Public Schools, students suffer from endless confusion, ethnic tension and the inability to understand one another. Also, DPS suffers a 50 percent flunk-out/drop-out rate, which peaked at 67 percent several years back. The philosopher Emanuel Kant said, "The great dividers are religion and language." At what point are we forced to learn 50 languages as immigrants inject themselves into our country at breakneck speed? How do we remain a cohesive ethos with linguistic chaos? It does not and has not worked in other countries. Europe cracks at the seams. Why do you think it will work here?

In California, over 60 percent flunk-out/drop-out rates remain the norm with over 100 languages creating chaos in the classrooms. Their educational system leads the lowest five states in standards and graduation rates. Essentially, they "warehouse" kids until they shove them out into the streets. One of the attributes I learned in my extensive world travels: illiteracy creates poverty, endless babies and more illiteracy. That's the key word for a third world country: illiteracy; and subsequent endless birth rates.

Education in countries like Mexico ends in the sixth grade for the majority of children. Do we want that cultural aspect in our own country? How will it work when they become the new majority? Can we survive it when it becomes the new majority? With 48.1 million people in this country subsisting on food stamps in 2014, how do we educate them toward living-wage jobs? How will we survive their poverty?

The fact remains that Toronto and Montreal suffer horrific multiculturalism consequences; so much so, their country suffers accelerating crime, poverty, illiteracy and worse. Same with Europe. (I've lived in both Europe and Canada.)

Why should our successful country change its language to suit other cultures and civilizations? What will we do to sustain the projected 100 million immigrants from 150 countries within the next 36 years by 2050? That's like doubling the populations of New York City and another 20 other cities. NYC stands at 8.3 million, but will double to 16.6 million and on down the line. How will we water, feed, house, transport, educate, medicate and work that many people as well as maintain our quality of life and environment? Answer: we won't.

The way forward: reduce all legal and illegal immigration to less than 100,000 annually. Maintain English as the standard language in order to maintain a cohesive society. Give our civilization a chance survive the 21st century rather than invade it with 100, 200, 300 million more immigrants—that will certainly overshoot and overwhelm our water, resources and energy. Additionally, such numbers will most certainly destroy our environment, quality of life and standard of living.
