Part 5: A Scholarly Analysis of America's Immigration Dilemma

Dayanand Saraswati, Indian sage, said in 1883, "Having thus given a cursory view of the Koran, I lay it before the sensible person with the purpose that they should know what kind of a book the Koran is. I have no hesitation to say that it cannot be the work of either God or of a learned man, nor can it be a book of knowledge. Here its very vital defect has been exposed with the object that people may not waste their life falling into its imposition. The Koran is the result of ignorance, the source of animalization of human beings, a fruitful cause of destroying peace, an incentive to war, and propagator of hostility among men and a promoter of suffering in society. As to defect of repetition, the Koran is its store."

Who Are We As Americans?

"In an earlier part of this conversation,” said Warren. “I have mentioned the contribution to this debate by Professor Samuel P. Huntington*. His book, Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity (2004), is perhaps the most comprehensive and scholarly analysis of the impact of immigration on America's traditional culture to date. In brief, Huntington argues that America's unique culture -- including 'the English language, Protestant values, individualism, religious commitment, and respect for law' (as enshrined in the Constitution and The Bill of Rights) -- was largely put in place by British and other European settlers who had shared a common, Judeo-Christian / Enlightenment-influenced understanding of the kind of free and open society that they wished to establish in the New World**.

As the dust jacket review continues:

"The waves of immigrants that later came to the United States gradually accepted these values and assimilated into America's Anglo-Protestant culture. More recently, however, national identity has been eroded by the problems of assimilating massive numbers of primarily Hispanic immigrants, bilingualism, multiculturalism, the devaluation of citizenship, and [echoing such observers as Robert Reich and Michael Lind,] the 'denationalization' of American elites."

“Immigrants devoted to their own cultures and religions are not influenced by the secular politically correct fa?ade that dominates academia, news-media, entertainment, education, religious and political thinking today,” said James Walsh, former Associate General Counsel of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service. “They claim the right not to assimilate, and the day is coming when the question will be how can the United States regulate the defiantly unassimilated cultures, religions and mores of foreign lands? Such immigrants say their traditions trump the U.S. legal system. Balkanization of the United States has begun.”

*Professor Huntington is perhaps best know for his earlier book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order (1996). In his more recent book, Huntington examines the multiple challenges to America as a unique and valuable civilization that are posed by an uncritical acceptance of the 'need' to remake this country in the image of the larger world.

**A useful historical narrative about how the foundational principles behind the English Common Law and the rights of citizens became firmly established in America is provided by Akhil Reed Amar in his book, America's Unwritten Constitution (2012). It is precisely this intellectual / cultural framework -- the underpinnings of America's legal system -- that the adherents of open borders and multiculturalism are striving so mightily to destroy.

"These days, whether the erosion of our cultural / national identity is seen as a 'problem' or an 'opportunity' probably depends on what sort of political ideology one espouses, and this is arguably one of Huntington's most salient points,” said Warren. “Without a set of commonly shared core values -- and a shared common language of discourse -- America becomes, in practice, anything that a dominant minority group can convince most people that it is, even if this new 'understanding' of the country radically departs from the kind of culture and society that its Founders intended.

"Perhaps the most curious aspect of Huntington's book is its pointed departure from the conventional wisdom of the Washington Establishment. Often associated with the Council on Foreign Relations and its globalist agenda, Huntington emerges instead as a thoughtful proponent of our traditional American values as opposed to the utopian groupthink of the current reigning elites. Because of this, Huntington's perspective is something that nobody in the mainstream media wants to acknowledge or publicize. All the more reason for thinking Americans to pick it up."

Part 6: In the next installment, Georgie Anne Geyer's book, Americans No More, and Victor Davis Hanson's Mexifornia.

Definition of slogan: “Immigration Shutdown Now means the American people want all legal immigration dropped to less than 10,000 annually with compatible immigrants that fit our ethos and want to become Americans, and only those who benefit our country and/or they marry an American and speak English. That means we want all illegal immigration stopped by arresting, prosecuting and jailing employers of illegal aliens. We deport all illegal aliens by taking their jobs away and as we catch them. We want English mandated as our national language. We demand a cessation of Muslim immigration in order to protect our culture, language and way of life. We can’t save the world but we can destroy our civilization. We demand a stable population that allows everyone to live, work and thrive into the 21st century. Especially our children.” FHW
