REP. CARL WILSON HEARS TESTIMONY BEFORE THE JOINT MEASURE 91 IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

The 2015 legislative session in Oregon has not been boring. We’ve had an opportunity to welcome two governors in five weeks…something none of us could expect. We’ve also seen how destructive one-party rule can be, as the Democrats have been pushing one lousy bill after another through House and Senate. The new governor, Kate Brown, has just encouraged her party to, “keep pushing forward”, which shows she chooses to stay a “Democrat’s Democrat”, as I call her. What all of this really means is that the Democrats control everything in Oregon…House, Senate, governor’s office, and the bureaucracy. Only they can stop themselves.
So, what does that leave Republicans to do? From my standpoint, it is to be the conscience of what America used to be and can become again. The progressives, who rule the Democrats in the capitol, have envisioned a government that controls everyone…and everything, from cradle to grave, cloaking it in “compassion”. Of course, beyond the precious loss of freedom, is the price tag, which is staggering for this kind of “compassion”. I call it the non-stop effort to create a dependency class in every walk of life. It has always been hard to compete with Santa Claus.

But, in our floor speeches and remonstrances, we will continue to remind people of an America that used to be…an America which stood for families, jobs, determination, thrift and freedom…something we call the American way of life.
Perhaps after a few more years of this spree…the voters in Oregon will choose to return folks to the legislature who care for them in a way that does them no harm.
Thanks for the opportunity to be your state representative! I love to go to work each day in Salem, believing that we will overcome the profligate ways of our opponents, as Oregon citizens wake up to the excesses that define much of the modern Beaver state.
