WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO VOTE

Grants Pass, Oregon: -The Josephine County Clerk indicated today that as of now, one week before conclusion of the ordinance referendum election, there has been a return of 23% of the eligible ballots. He indicated that forecasts an over low return - probably in the 40 percentile range. This is unacceptable.

The Oregon constitution was amended by the people to arm them with the power to bypass or over-rule our elected legislators by way of the public initiative and referendum. A great many hardworking local citizens secured for you the power to vote on this package of ordinances adopted in April relating to codes compliance in the County. For better or for ill, if adopted, these ordinances will apply to you.

This scheme of regulation is admittedly patterned after that in Jackson County. It has been opined that most people are unaware of it in Jackson County. While it may be true that for most of that County, there appears to be no impact one way or the other, in those cases where the ordinances have become an issue, the result has been a horror story for the victim. The scheme, as proposed here, can ultimately lead to the forfeiture of one’s land if the County disapproves of one’s behavior enough. Granting the County bureaucrats that level of power is not a step that should be taken without serious consideration. Every one of us needs to vote.

We have seen with Obamacare that if one does not fully understand a proposed law, the rule should be to vote NO. Nancy Pelosi urged that one vote for legislation as a “try it, maybe you’ll like” proposition. The difficulty with that line of thought is that once established, these bureaucratic powers never go away.

These proposed ordinances have a terrible potential for abuse and disregard for individual liberty. If you don’t understand exactly what they entail, vote NO.

If you understand exactly how these ordinances can be applied to you and you are happy with that, then you should properly vote for them. But keep in mind that you will be applying them to others as well. If you are of the disposition that you like imposing your will on others, a yes vote is appropriate.

If you understand the evil potential in this scheme of bureaucratic legislation, you must vote NO to protect your rights, your property and the liberty of all your fellow citizens.

Whatever your position, PLEASE VOTE.

Please vote NO on 17-53, 17-54, 17-55, and 17-56
