IN TIMES LIKE THESE

Alexis de Tocqueville wrote, “The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

In times like these can America still repair her faults? While Americans know something is desperately wrong, do they understand the truth of what is wrong? How can America repair her faults?

We’ve come to be a nation that no longer produces but imports for a cheaper cost. (or so we are led to believe) Our economy is in the tank and the “fix-its” our DC Occupiers come up with always seem to make things worse. What is the problem and how do we repair it?

We’ve become a nation governed by dictators in our state capitals and in DC. My mind rolls back to a quote from a movie: “The Patriot.” Mel Gibon’s character wasn’t ready to go to war with the King of England and he defended his stance to those leading and debating revolution: “Why should I trade ONE tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants ONE mile away? An elected legislature can trample a man’s rights as easily as a king can!” Our elected officials have lost their way. Many no longer believe in the hearts of our Founding Fathers; many believe the US Constitution is old and outdated. Our elected officials are shoving “National Healthcare” down the throats of the American people yet exempt themselves as well as other government bureaucrats from this “tax” – “law” – “bill” that is so wonderful for our nation! When elected officials do not believe they should abide by the same rules, regulations and laws of the people, they are all tyrants, just as stated in “The Patriot.” Elected legislators have and continue to trample on our rights. So again, what is the problem and how can America repair her faults?

We recently witnessed an event in Louisiana in which the “food stamp” cards issued to those who need “government” assistance (key word assist) experienced a computer glitch in the system. People’s cards were “unlimited” so-to-speak. They began buying up the store; literally! Two Walmart stores in Louisiana had barren shelves. These people receiving assistance knew full well they were taking, stealing from “the government.” Of course the government is you and I… their lack of integrity was bulging out all over; in the end, they cared not who would pay that bill they were running up! Have Americans lost all sense of integrity, honesty and compassion for fellow Americans? Obviously there was no respect for the institution of government, as they wiped the stores clean with little to no conscience. Before we can fix or repair our faults we must recognize the problem!

The last several decades we’ve watched the America many of us grew up in fall from her “greatness.” “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” (Alexis de Tocqueville)

In the last several decades we’ve been told in America there is to be a separation of church and state. This is a lie my friends! The separation is for the state to stay out of the business of the church (all denominations). The church and the people have every right to hold Bible studies in their homes, have Christmas songs sung in school choirs, have prayer in school or prior to school events; be it football games, basketball games or an awards banquet. Businesses (state, public, private) have every right to display the Ten Commandments, Nativity Scenes or flags stating God Bless America! So why have we fallen for the lies? If America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great!

Did you know that the founding fathers started a number of colleges and universities between 1636 and 1769 and all but one were distinctly Christian! In 1636, Harvard was established by the Puritans. In 1693 William and Mary was established by the Anglicans. In 1701, Yale was established by the Congregationalists. In 1746, Princeton was established by Presbyterians. In 1754, King’s College was established by the Anglicans. In 1764, Brown was established by the Baptists. In 1766, Rutgers was established by the Dutch Reformed Believers and finally in 1769, Dartmouth was established by The Congregationalists. Might I point out none of these schools were funded or established by government OR by any other religion other than the Christian faith. Not one of them was established by a Muslim Mosque…NOT ONE! These schools of higher learning held fast to the scriptures as the foundation and authority of truth; they did not seek approval or permission from “established government.” Why did we allow the “government” in DC and our state capitals to take over our public schools? Why have our colleges become so socialistic and involved in the deception of our Constitution, our Founding Fathers and our God?

In times like these, men have forgotten God; men use his name in vain or to curse but not to humbly submit or surrender or to give praise. In times like these, we allow the institution of government to play god in legalizing the slaughter of our unborn; the future of America. In times like these, we’re told it’s not sin but natural for men to lay with men and women to lay with women. In times like these, men and women desert their own children, for parties, drugs, orgies and all selfish desires. In times like these indeed, because we have failed to acknowledge God and allow Him to lead.

We’re not the first nation to fall away from our God. We’re not the first nation to open our arms to other gods of religion and then turn away from the one and only true God! We’re not the first people to worship all else but the creator. In times like these we’re told that the life of a tree is as sacred as our children and given the phrase “mother earth;” in times like these when good is called evil and evil is called good…

Jeremiah 2:27 —“…Saying to a stock, ‘Thou art my father,’ and to a stone, ‘Thou hast brought me forth.’ For they have turned their back unto Me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us!’”

Isaiah 5:20 —“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

In times like these it looks as though we’ve been repeating “history” and not in a good way. However the answer for each of us as well as for America to repair her faults is simple we must turn back to God. He has made this clear in His Word; He will keep His promise, but we must redirect our lives and our nation and follow God.

2 Chronicles 7:14 —“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 is a very simple plan for redemption but it is difficult for each of us to do. For mankind to be humbled is a difficult and personal action for us to take but a necessary action for us to make. I have hope for our nation because I believe in our God. In times like these, He is waiting for us to “do the right thing,” and return to Him.

Zephaniah 3:17 —“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”

We must know that God is waiting for us… and when His people come to him He will rejoice! God does not ask us to kill but commands us to love one another and to follow Him. What a wonderful feeling to know He sings over me, over you and over us. What a glorious day it will be in America when we realize exactly how to repair our faults!

If In God we trust—Acknowledge Him we must!
