I can’t even begin to tell you how disappointed I am in Governor Sarah Palin.
(Most of the Palin-groupies have probably stopped reading already.) For the rest of you who might be interested in my reasoning please let me explain.
When she blew in onto the political landscape she carried more wallop than the Kansas tornado that lifted Dorothy into the Land of Oz. While most “conservatives” were gasping for air as they tried to breathe life into the stogy Maverick McCain campaign, Mrs. Palin filled the atmosphere with helium as she single-handily lifted the hopes of America’s “family values” voters.
She was to the McCain campaign what spinach was to Popeye. In my lifetime I have never seen a candidate with such immediate rock-star appeal. While the Obama-loving media swooned over the man with three Muslim names, cries of “Sarah” reverberated all across fly-over country. Obama was a Madison Avenue creation, while Governor Palin was the second coming of Dorothy. She was the girl next door. She held the same values as Mom and Pop America and her poise and presentation reminded us that there was “no place like home.”
“Home is where your heart is,” and Governor Palin had the heart of the girl next door. In a matter of weeks she was a household name. Rarely do honorable women ever reach the status where “first-name only” brings immediate recognition…Hillary, Madonna...and now Sarah.
It must have been overwhelming for her. No one is ever prepared for fame…especially when it is so sudden and meteoric. Even when her warts were exposed, pregnant daughter, special needs child, her sense of dignity and grace, spiced with Christian salt, made her irresistible to a truth –starved electorate.
As my friend Flip said, “I think Sarah is God’s man.” Oh how we longed for her to be.
How do I write this without sounding so critical? That is really not my aim. Although I asked many of my friends who were swooning over her, “Where is the male Sarah Palin” deep down I was praying that she really was a gift from God. Like Esther of the Old Testament, perhaps she was the answer to a prayer, a brave woman that the Lord had sent to do a man’s job.
“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”
Whether she was called by the Lord, or whether she is a creature of fate, time will tell. But rarely in world history has anyone been given such a platform from which to speak at such a transitional time in the affairs of men. At no time in the history of America has Christianity been so under attack.
“Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” -Psalm 75
If Governor Palin has been elevated to this platform has she been called to turn people back to God…or back to the GOP? It is THE question upon which her ultimate impact will ride.
Throughout history prophets have not been popular people. Speaking truth to power is a dangerous business. More often than not those who wore the prophet’s mantle have paid with their lives.
The GOP cannot save America. In a time when the responsibility to trumpet the truth, exposing the rotting soul of the American government, Governor Sarah has chosen to lead the flock not to a Savior but to an Elephant…not to G O D but to the G O P.
Which would have a greater impact on America, a Spiritual revival convicting the hearts of men of their need for a Savior, or an election in November that delivers the control of Congress from the Donkey’s to the Elephants?
If Sarah Palin is really God’s man then she is going to have to change the focus of her message. Political victories are temporary, Spiritual one’s are eternal.
I am reminded of what Jesus exhorted His Disciples in Mathew 10. His admonition applies to those who are His disciples today.
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak:
for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it
is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
I wonder if Governor Palin has had the opportunity to pull back and take a good look at what has happened to her over the past 18 months. If the Sovereign Hand of the Lord has moved upon her life and elevated her to the pinnacles of power has he done it to put her in power or to have her speak to power?
Unborn children are continuing to die, marriage is no longer sacred, government has become the “den of thieves” that Jesus spoke of, and corruption is rampant in the halls of justice. America has been weighed in a balance and found wanting.

“It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” -Patrick Henry
Will Governor Palin point out the poison in America’s soul and prescribe the only remedy being a return to the Old Rugged Cross?
Will she point us to a Cross or an Elephant? To G-O-D or G-O-P?
If Governor Palin is God’s man, is she called to be President or prophet?
“For such a time as this…”
